However, this might not help for ice that is already formed. So, the best way is to prevent it before the ice buildup.
- Defrosting: Defrosting, the safest way to de-ice windshields is to trust your vehicle’s built-in de-icing function. Make sure to maintain either low or medium setting on the defrost or else sudden temperature could damage the windshield. This would take 15-20 minutes to melt the ice. Also, turn on your car for enough time before you need to leave.
- Credit Card: If there is only a thin layer of ice or snow and if you do not have a car scraper you can always use the edge of your credit card to take off the snow and ice. However, this does not work on a thick layer.
- Rubbing Alcohol: This is one of the fastest ways to melt ice. The 2:1 ratio of rubbing alcohol and water has to be sprayed onto the ice. This will melt the accumulated ice and snow within 2 minutes. Finally, run your car wipers and clear the sludgy melt.
- Saltwater: Here is another effective way to get rid of ice and snow from your car. Make sure you use this only if you have no other option left. Mix up 1tbsp of salt with two cups of warm water on your windshield. Remove excess level snow or ice from your windshield before you spray the solution.
