Collision avoidance system is the next wave in safety technology. When you’re driving on the open road, it is quite difficult to place safety first. One has to be alert and make sure to be focused while driving. Many drivers end up investing in safety tools that reduce the chances of collision that leads to motor vehicle accidents.
A collision avoidance system (CAS) is one such helpful tool. However, believing that this system is a replacement for being alert to the surroundings could be a mistake. CAS is also known as a driver assistance system, designed so that it could lower the severity of collision in the few seconds before it occurs.

Some systems use AI technology and others do use dash cams for images and GPS for location information. Whenever the collision is detected, this system alerts a driver via sound or light to avoid a collision from occurring.
Most general examples of CAS include:
- Lane departure assist warning system: This type of collision avoidance system is designed to alert drivers if their vehicle veers off the lane or the road.
- Cameras for rearview: This rearview camera helps the driver to prevent a back-over accident, such as hitting any object or any person who wanders behind your car.
- Active and ABS (automatic braking system): Automatic emergency braking system is a technology that activates an automatic braking system when it senses any oncoming object. Brakes are automatically applied based on feedback from the sensors to prevent a collision.
- Blind-spot monitoring (BSM): This blind spot system uses radars and cameras to scan the surrounding car areas. It alerts you by looking for vehicles entering your car’s blind spot zones. Whenever a vehicle any collision is suspected, it alerts the driver with a beep sound or light.
- Forward collision warning system (FCW): This is also known as a pre-crash warning system. This system is combined with radar, laser, and some also have camera-based systems warnings too.
- Parking assistance: The system will detect the parallel or perpendicular space while parking. Once detected, the system will steer the car into space; and the driver has to follow commands from the system.
- Pedestrian detection: Pedestrians and cyclists are the most vulnerable targets for vehicles. This system identifies the human movement on road via its sensor. This helps the driver to identify the object before it’s too late.
The majority of the collision avoidance system uses cameras that locates both the front and read sides of the car. This CAS helps drivers to locate collisions before it’s too late.
